Photographs

The advent of photography towards the middle of the 19th century gave the amateur and professional photographer the opportunity to record their families, their travels and their adventures. Developing into its own art form, 19th and 20th century photography has become very collectable, with notable names including Julia Margaret Cameron, Cecil Beaton and Man Ray.

Our enthusiastic ephemera department appreciate and value your photographs and the historical social, economic and cultural insight that they provide. Recently the department was delighted to offer for sale a rare collection of photographs from the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. The interest was worldwide with features on television, in newspapers and in magazines all over Europe and America and the extraordinary collection eventually sold for £9,200.

Photographs are sold quarterly at our Sussex Saleroom, as part of the Books & Ephemera section of our Interiors series of auctions.
