Jonathan studied Fine Art & Chattels Valuation before working in Edinburgh at Philips Auctioneers as a furniture porter, where he learnt a great deal... particularly how hard it is to move a mahogany sideboard up three floors on your own! A move to Phillips in Guildford, a stint at a London valuation company, and a spell at Dreweatt-Neate Auctioneers followed, before he joined Sotheby’s Sussex in 2002. Never one to let a fantastic opportunity slip by, Jonathan became MD of Bellmans in 2005 and - alongside regular appearances on BBC’s Bargain Hunt, Antiques Road Trip and Flog It – is more passionate about the antiques world than he’s ever been.
Married with four kids, three dogs, a thirty-year skiing habit he can’t kick and a love-hate relationship with a guitar, when up early enough he loves to run with the family’s motley crew of canines in the Hampshire countryside.
Most Memorable Moment: Jonathan once stopped a client from throwing a carpet in a skip – and subsequently sold it for £8,500.
Wishful Find: A blue diamond or an Alfons Walde oil painting (preferably the diamond!).
