PICTURE DEPARTMENT CATALOGUER (full-time, Wisborough Green, West Sussex)
The Role:
To catalogue, value and research paintings, watercolours, prints and sculpture for the nine annual picture sales, including two dedicated Old Master, British & European Sales and two Modern & Contemporary Sales, as well as to assist the Head of Paintings and Senior Picture Specialist in the general day-to-day functioning of the picture department.
Responsibilities include:
Cataloguing and researching works to the highest standard whilst meeting sale deadlines. Carrying out authentication and research where necessary including exhibition, literary history and provenance. Assisting with valuations online, at the valuations counter, on client visits including insurance and probate valuations and valuation days. Contributing to the pre-sale viewing period, including sale set-up, responding efficiently to client queries and providing condition reports. Assisting the Head of Marketing with promotion of the sale on the website and social media channels.
The successful candidate:
Will be motivated with an enthusiasm to learn and develop expertise, be able to work under pressure in a busy but extremely rewarding environment and ideally be educated to degree-level in Art History along with previous experience in an auction house or commercial art gallery.
Salary:

OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR/RECEPTIONIST (full-time, Wisborough Green, West Sussex)
The Role:
To be the first point of contact for clients providing a welcoming, professional and discreet service. Together with assisting in the general day-to-day functioning of a busy office.
Responsibilities include:
Dealing with clients on valuation days and registering buyers for the Interior and Decorative sales, including specialist Jewellery, Silver, Art and Asian sales. Taking money, organising collections and assisting client bidding.
Contributing to the pre-sale viewing period, responding efficiently to client queries and sending condition reports.
Assisting the Office Manager.
The successful candidate:
Will be motivated, enthusiastic, organised, confident using computers and be able to work under pressure in a busy but extremely rewarding environment.
Hours:
Monday to Friday 9am-5pm with an hour for lunch. You may also be asked to work an occasional Saturday morning, before an auction.
