a two page autographed letter, twenty lines, dated Jan 13, 1880, written from The Oratory to Mr. Pocock, 17.5cm x 11cm, accompanied with the original postmarked envelope 'Birmingham JA 13 80' addressed in the Cardinal's hand to The Rev'd. N. Pocock, 5 Worcester Terrace, Clifton, Bristol, Newman writes thanking Pocock for the tidings of Dr. Barrow's death, 'I said mass for him this morning. . . ', informing his friend he had also received a letter from Barrow's brother that morning, the letter and envelope behind glass, and framed. * John Barrow earlier contributed to J.H.N.'s 'The Lives of the Saints' written by various hands, John Henry Newman's canonisation took place in Rome, 13th October, 2019, officially declaring him a saint.
