Asian and European Ceramics Specialist

Phil joins Bellmans as a Specialist in the Asian and European Ceramics and Glass department. He has a particular interest in Japanese cloisonne enamels, but maintains a specialist knowledge in wider Asian and European ceramics and works of art including British studio pottery and Chinese porcelain.

Phil studied History of Art and Art-World Practice at the University of Glasgow, with two years at Christie's Education in London, before specialising into Asian art at postgraduate Master's level studying History of Art and Archaeology of East Asia at SOAS, University of London.

He began his career at Ramsay Cornish Auctioneers in Edinburgh, eventually working to become Asian and Islamic Art cataloguer and consultant.

Career highlight: cataloguing a rare and important unsigned dish by Namikawa Yasuyuki with a central roundel depicting dragon, a design exhibited by Yasuyuki at the Universal Exposition in Barcelona (1888).
